Custom Fit For The Student

Lessons are customized to the student’s specific goals and skill level.  While I do try and stick to a guided lesson path, I am very flexible and often adjust “on the fly” to whatever is exciting the student that day (specific questions, song to learn, drum parts, etc.)

I strive to tailor the lessons to the student’s specific goals, requests and interests, while making sure that important skills and techniques don’t get overlooked.

Lesson Focus

I focus strongly on learning a few beats and fills right away to get an instant feeling of accomplishment.  As soon as possible, we’ll begin to play along with music, (hopefully their favorite songs) as this is the best way to learn more styles and have fun with the drums!

Instead of forcing the student to learn to read music, I focus on using the count of the music as a guide where things should be played.  One of my main priorities is that the student is able to communicate with other musicians and understands universal music concepts and language.

All Skill Levels – Ages 6+

Never touched a drumstick?  Been playing for years?  No matter your level of experience, I can help you reach your drumming goals!

Adults and children are welcomed, starting at age 6. I love working with beginners.

Duration & Schedule

I typically start with 30 minute lessons, once a week, and if the student seems ready then we can progress to 60-minute lessons if that is what he or she desires.

Location

Located in the heart of East Hill, the location is perfect for anyone in Pensacola, Pace, Gulf Breeze or Cantonment, FL.  In-home lessons are also a possibility.

Guided Lesson Path

I have developed a clear lesson path that I use to ensure development and progress for the student. While I am always mindful of each student’s specific drumming goals, following some form of path is beneficial.

Lesson PDF & Video Access 24/7

During the lessons I will often give the student handouts with info and exercises.  In addition to these lesson PDFs, I have created instructional video lessons, which are available 24/7 and my students will always have access whenever they are able to work on their progress – even on the go!

Always Connected

I love to get questions from my students, especially if they are stuck, frustrated and don’t want to wait until the next lesson.  I welcome calls and questions any time during the week.

A Different Approach to Teaching the Drums

Throughout the years, playing live music almost every week has shown me that a lot of the things taught in traditional drum lessons aren’t crucial to developing skill and success on the drums.

After seeing so many students lose interest with traditional drum instruction methods and endless exercises, I’ve embrace a method of teaching that “trims the fat” and strips away many unnecessary exercises and boring routines.

I prefer a method focusing instead on learning beats and fills right away – eventually playing along with your favorite songs – all without having to read music!

I’ve helped my students see the FUN of the drums by showing them that:

  • You don’t have to learn to read music to succeed
  • You don’t have to spend endless hours doing repetitive exercises.
  • You don’t have to start on a pad or snare drum for weeks or months before you can begin playing beats on a full drum kit.
  • You don’t have to devote hours each week to practice when small, 15 minute sessions, a few days a week will work just fine.

Ready To Get Started?

I teach private lessons but also offer course materials to help guide you step-by-step as you learn.  I’ve helped countless students achieve their goals of learning the drums…

I know that I can help you too!
